Toddler killed in collision outside Hartford laundromat, police say

HARTFORD – A toddler walking out of a laundromat was killed by a hit-and-run driver Monday evening, police said.

Hartford police said the girl, who was 1.5 years old, walked into the street through the open door of a laundromat on New Britain Avenue around 10:55 p.m.

The girl’s identity was not immediately released.

Lt. Aaron Boisvert said police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting the toddler had been hit near 36 New Britain Ave.

Police found the child unconscious in the street, Boisvert said. She was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

β€œThe vehicle involved in the incident fled the area, heading west on New Britain Avenue,” Boisvert said.

Police described the car as a black 2013 BMW328xi. The car’s Connecticut license plate is BD98328, police said.

Boisvert said the department’s Crime Scene Division took over the investigation.

Police did not immediately say whether anyone who looked at the child could face charges.
