Marjorie LANE Obituary – East Hartford, CT (1923-2013)

LANE, Marjorie Cooney Marjorie Cooney Lane, 89, a longtime resident of East Hartford, passed away peacefully on Friday (April 5, 2013) surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 21, 1923, a daughter of the late Edward and Anna (Urbansky) Cooney. Her career began after graduating from St. Francis School of Nursing, class of 1945. She worked for many years as a school nurse in the East Hartford Public Schools. Her generous spirit of giving was reflected in her involvement with the Cub Scouts, St. Mary’s Guild, Pre-Cana, CCD and Meals on Wheels. Marge’s commitment to community service was a legacy she left within her family. She was a caring wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend who will be missed by her family and friends. Marge’s close circle of friends, including the nurses at St. Francis, brought her much joy and comfort throughout her life. In addition to her parents, Marge was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert; her brother, Edward; and brother-in-law, Charles Dana. She is survived by her daughter, Christine Tracey; daughter, Maureen Grandmont and her husband Richard; son, Robert; son, Steven and wife Julie Menard; daughter, Karan Bycholski and her husband Tim; and son-in-law, Wayne Tracey. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Dana; sister-in-law Collette Cooney and many nieces and nephews. Her thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren lovingly called her Nana. Marge’s family would like to thank the caregivers at Woodlake in Tolland and North Central Hospice for the compassionate love and care given to her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marge’s memory to North Central Hospice & Palliative Care, 8 Keynote Dr., Vernon, CT. 06066. Friends and family are invited to a period of visitation on Wednesday, April 10 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Benjamin J. Callahan Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, CT 06108. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home on Thursday, April 11 at 9:00 AM , followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 15 Maplewood Ave., East Hartford.
