Obituary of Kenneth Smith – Mathews, VA

MATHEWS – Kenneth Gordon Smith Sr., age 72, of Grimstead, died Monday, November 15, 2004. A native of Swampscott, Massachusetts, he was a veteran of the Korean War and a U.S. Naval Reservist. He graduated from Fitchburg State College in Massachusetts, where he received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. He taught industrial arts at schools in Boston, Lynn, Revere and Gloucester, Massachusetts. He also taught at Mathews High School in Mathews, Virginia. Kenneth received his doctorate in theology and was a furniture maker. He retired to Grimstead, Virginia, with his wife Janice. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Kathy Halpin of Virginia Beach, Va., and Pamela White of Hampton, Va.; a son, Kenneth Smith Jr. from Swampscott, Mass.; three sisters, Tally Blowers, Marsha and Roberta Smith; one brother, Russell Smith; five grandchildren, Jason and Valerie Halpin, David Page, Christopher and Thomas Smith; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 19, at Central United Methodist Church, Mathews. Burial will follow at Gwynn’s Island Cemetery.
