Obituary of Janet Ewing – Spring City, PA

JANET M. EWING, 79, SPRING CITY Janet M. Ewing, 79, wife of the late Irvin Ewing of Spring City, died Tuesday at Seasons Hospice at Phoenixville Hospital. Janet was born in Spring City to the late Samuel Jefferson “Jeff” and the late Wilhelmina (Slifer) Slaughter. Janet lived most of her life in Spring City where she worked at the former PHILCO Ford and Pennhurst as well as American Machine and Tool until her retirement. Janet was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Liberty Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Janet enjoyed avid quilting, general sewing, needle and cross stitching, crocheting and of course shopping at QVC. Janet is survived by a son, David Scott, husband of Kristin Ewing of Key Largo, FL, and sisters, Nancy McCain of Spring City; Grace Collopy of Parkerford, and Judy Jones of Tyrone, and two grandsons, Matthew Ewing and Sean Fredericks. She was predeceased by a son, Allan Ewing, husband of Mary Ewing, and sister, Ruth Ann Schmidt. Her funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Shalkop Grace & Strunk Funeral Home, Bridge and Church Street, Spring City, with the Rev. Paul Townsend officiating. Burial will take place in the Limerick Garden of Memories. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Janet’s walking team for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk, held annually this year on September 29, 2012 at Wilson Farm Park, Tredyffrin Township, Chester County.
