‘Playful’ sea creature darts out of the water next to boaters, video shows from California

The people on the boat did not expect this. Yes, they were hoping to see a whale on the water that day, but this encounter was special.

A humpback whale swimming close to the whale watcher’s boat off the coast of California was feeling erratic.

The group spotted the whale and just when they thought it was going to dive deep beneath the ocean’s surface, it did the opposite. The giant mammal shot out of the water, twisted its body and fell backwards into the water with a dramatic splash.

“Oh my God!” the passengers say in a video from the company, Capt. Dave’s Dana Point Dolphin & Whale Watching Safari.

According to oceanadventures.com, humpback whales are known for being one of the most playful, acrobatic creatures in the sea. They are also known for their music, singing songs that can be heard up to 20 miles away during mating season.

Their lively surface behavior makes them the most exciting to watch.

“Humpback whales are living proof that you should never let your guard down while whale watching,” the company wrote in a post on Facebook.
