This scenic southern city is the hottest place to move to in 2024

A recently published report named a popular southern beach destination the most visited city in 2024.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, took the crown for most moved city in an analysis published by PODS, a moving and storage company. Wilmington, North Carolina, shared the same spot.

PODS found that more and more Americans are choosing to move to the Southern states, which has become a trend in recent years.

“We are seeing more and more people moving to the Southern Appalachians, which includes states like North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama,” PODS explains.

“People also continue to move to select Florida cities and old retirement favorites like Boise, Portland (ME) and Phoenix.”

PODS attributed the popularity of the Carolinas to its “low cost of living, access to the outdoors and a solid quality of life.”

The study also analyzed which cities had the most moves in 2024 – and predictably, some of them are the most expensive places to live in the US.

PODs says the main reason people leave these locations is money-related.

“Rising rents, a housing struggle, high tax rates and overcrowding are common problems in many of the cities that top the relocation list this year,” the report said. “Los Angeles returns to number one, followed by major metros (and repeat offenders) such as San Francisco, Miami and Long Island, NY (part of the greater NYC area that PODS serves).”

“It is not surprising that these cities are also among the most expensive urban areas in the country.”
