May Reading Obituary – Old Saybrook, CT (1934-2015)

May Reading passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 13, 2015 in Sonoma, CA. She was born May Annette Ferland on May 9, 1934, to Beatrice and Alyre Ferland of Hartford, Connecticut, the third of four children. Growing up in the French Canadian community on Columbia Street in Hartford. May attended Hartford Public High School and was co-captain of the cheerleading squad. She earned an Associates’ Degree in Fashion Design from the University of Hartford. She traveled extensively throughout her life and lived in Honolulu, HI for an extended period in 1954. She married Paul Reading in 1957 and settled in Wethersfield, CT where they raised three children; Stephen, Brian and Patty. May was a devoted homemaker and community volunteer and was active in the PTA, youth sports, tennis club and Corpus Christi Catholic Church. May enjoyed spending summers with her extended family at the cottage built by her father Alyre on Cornfield Point in Old Saybrook, CT, where she shared many memorable and cherished family events. She was predeceased by her husband Paul (1994), eldest son Stephen (1992) and brother Rich (2003). May is survived by two sisters Terese Cymerys of Davie, FL and Claire Manly of Windsor, CT; son Brian and daughter-in-law Filippa Reading of Plantation, FL; daughter Patty, son-in-law Nick Yardley and grandson Theo Yardley and granddaughter Katrina Yardley of Penngrove, CA. May was much loved by many and will be greatly missed by all. A memorial service and celebration of her life will take place this summer at Cornfield Point in Old Saybrook, CT.
