Obituary of Albert THORPE – Bristol, CT

THORPE, Albert W. Albert W. Thorpe, 84, of Bristol, husband of Phyllis (Perreault) Thorpe, died Monday (Feb. 22, 2010) at Hartford Hospital. Al was born on September 10, 1925 in Pawtucket, RI and was the son of the late Harry and Susie (Taylor) Thorpe. He grew up in Pawtucket and attended local schools before enlisting in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving sea duty aboard the USS Gemini in the Pacific. He had lived in Bristol since 1959 and worked at Potter and Johnson and then at Pratt and Whitney Machine Tools in West Hartford before retiring in 1988. An avid camper and RVer, he spent twenty years in his mobile home after retirement and was a member of the Family Motor Coach Assn (FMCA) and was a past president of the Mountain Laurel Travelers Chapter. He was a member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew’s and at one time a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Bristol, where he helped establish the Sunday school program. In addition to his wife of 62 years, Al is survived by two sons, David Thorpe and his wife, Deborah, of Burlington, and Kenneth Thorpe, and his fiancée, Lynne Lukasavage, of Bristol; two daughters, Lynda Krueger, and her husband, Robert, of Middletown, and Nancy Watson of Middletown; and three grandchildren, Justin Watson, Christopher Thorpe and Jason Thorpe. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, J. Stanley Watson, and his granddaughter, Erika Lin Watson. Funeral services will be held on Friday (Feb. 26, 2010) at 11 a.m. at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol. The funeral will take place at the convenience of the family.
