Giakoumakis reunites with ex-Celtic teammate and greets ‘little brother’

GIORGOS GIAKOUMAKIS has taken MLS by storm since leaving Celtic for Atlanta United.

But we were let down by a former Hoops friend last night!

Giakoumakis, 29, left Celtic for Atlanta in February last year.

And the Greece international was a big player in the United States, scoring 20 goals last season.

He has scored five times in his first three games this season, but is now in a somewhat poor run, having gone seven games without a goal.

That could have something to do with the great transfer interest.

Mexican giants Cruz Azul have reportedly offered a huge £7.85 million to sign him away from Atlanta.

For the time being, he remains with the club from Georgia and started last night’s MLS match against Charlotte FC.

And it was a match that pitted Giakoumakis against a very familiar face.

Liel Abada was on the side of the opposition.

The Israeli winger left Parkhead in March and last night’s clash with Atlanta proved to be his finest moment in the US yet.

Thiago Almada gave Atlanta the lead, after which an own goal by Derrick Williams made it 1-1 just before half time.

Then it was Abada’s time to shine.

The 22-year-old struck twice – in the 56th and 68th minutes – to give Charlotte a 3-1 lead.

Xande Silva struck back late for Atlanta, while Giakoumakis was introduced as a substitute.

But the equalizer did not materialize and Abada’s second goal proved to be the winner.

After the match, the two former Parkhead stars reunited on the pitch and swapped shirts.

Abada shared the photo on his Instagram stories and said: “Good to see you my brother ❤️”

Giakoumakis, despite seeing his team defeated by Abada’s goals, reshared the image and said: “My little brother ☘️”

Abada also had plenty to celebrate outside the park last week.

That’s because he is engaged to his long-term girlfriend Bar Rashti.
