Sylvia Zohlman obituary – West Hartford, CT

ZOHLMAN, Sylvia Leibowitz Sylvia Leibowitz Zohlman, 96, of West Hartford, formerly of Brooklyn, NY, died Sunday (March 9, 2008). She was the beloved wife of Charles Leibowitz. Born in Kiev, Russia, she was the daughter of Sophie and Benjamin Kopchinsky. She worked as a hat designer in New York City, where she met Charles, the love of her life. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was a member of Hadassah and an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society. She is survived by a son Fred A. Zohlman and his wife Lisa of Unionville, beloved grandchildren; Corey Zohlman and Michelle Zohlman and nieces Enid Silverstein of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, cousins, Alan, Joey and Melvin Leibowitz of Brooklyn, NY and Lisa’s father Harold Morris of Bristol. She was predeceased by a sister Claire Silverstein and sister-in-law Peggy Leibowitz and her husband Jack Leibowitz. A burial will be held TODAY, Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at 12:00 noon at Temple Beth Torah Cemetery, Wethersfield, (intersection of Berlin Trnpke and Jordan Lane, top of Jordan La. extension). The family will observe a private period of mourning. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sylvia’s memory to Alzheimer’s research. The family would like to thank the staff of the Hebrew Home and Hospital and the VNA for their special care.
