St. George firefighters rescue duck that fell into drain

BATON ROUGE – The St. George Fire Department responded Saturday when a duckling fell into a drain and was abandoned by its family.

Fire officials said crews were returning from a call and waited for a family of ducks to cross the street before continuing. As they crossed the road, one fell into a drain as his parents and siblings marched on.

Firefighters jumped into the drain and rescued the baby animal. The duckling was taken to a bird sanctuary in Lafayette.
