Milwaukee Bucks nab former Atlanta Hawks lottery pick in intriguing trade proposal

It will be a crucial offseason for the Milwaukee Bucks as they make some crucial decisions that will not only impact their title win next season, but will also have major ramifications for the near future.

Considering how the season ended for them, it wouldn’t be a complete shock if the Bucks make some surprising picks that will result in an entirely new team in 2024-2025.

According to Givemesport’s Nathaniel Holloway, former No. 4 overall pick De’Andre Hunter of the Atlanta Hawks should be a trade target for the Bucks this offseason. However, in its proposed trade proposal, Milwaukee will have to give up quite a bit in exchange for the 6-foot-4 swingman.

Below are the details of the proposed transaction:

Hawks receive: Pat Connaughton, MarJon Beauchamp, 2026 first-round pick

Bucks receive: De’Andre Hunter

Holloway argues that Hunter will be able to provide a viable two-way threat for the Bucks – something they will need considering how this proposed deal also means moving star big man Brook Lopez, the team’s defensive anchor, out of the way for space to make up for Hunter’s average annual salary of $23.3 million over the next three seasons.

“Hunter would add to an already good offensive team, but he would really help Milwaukee defensively. The Bucks finished 19th in defensive rating out of 30 teams last season.

“This isn’t surprising after they were traded Jrue holiday he lost one of the best defensive guards in the league last season. Adding Hunter would not completely replace the loss of Holiday, but would be a step in the right direction,” Holloway wrote.

Losing Pat Connaughton would be tough as it leaves Milwaukee short a player. MarJon Beauchamp’s departure, on the other hand, would mean the Bucks would lose another young talent from their roster.

The catch here, however, is the 20206 first-round pick they will have to give up. Given the current market, I’m not entirely sure Hunter is worth a first-round pick, which makes adding both Connaughton and Beauchamp to the deal feels like overkill.
