Two rescued from fire in Westborough

Two residents were rescued from a fire in Westborough on Sunday, according to Chief Patrick Purcell of the city’s fire department.

No injuries have been reported.

The two-alarm fire broke out early Sunday morning at 22-26 South St. Two people were trapped on the roof of the building and tried to escape.

The fire brigade rescued the residents with a ladder and successfully extinguished the fire after about an hour.

The building suffered $1 million in damage, affecting several apartments and a restaurant below.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and is still under investigation.
