The World Pig Fair is almost here | AG

(Des Moines) — In just a few days, the world’s largest pork fair will take place at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

Doug Fricke with the National Pork Producers Council says they are excited about the June 5-6 show at the 2024 World Pork Expo.

“It’s shaping up to be one of our bigger events we’ve had at the fairgrounds in recent years, so what’s exciting is we have a lot planned.”

Visitors from all over the world will visit Des Moines, Iowa for the show. Fricke says they will be at the event, as will more than 400 companies and 700 booths.

“With many new introductions and equipment, feeding technology, outdoor equipment for manure processing, you name it, it’s there.”

Technology is what specifically fascinates Fricke, from the latest ways of dealing with pigs to the bells and whistles of alarm systems.

“It’s always amazing how you can make something better every year. And it really saves time when it comes to surgery and that’s what excites me: how can you reinvent something you know every few years to make it better and they seem to be doing it.”

The show is on Wednesday and Thursday, June 5 to 6. It costs $20 at the gate for both days. The show lasts from nine to five and includes lunch.

“Thursday night, if people stick around and want to experience some live entertainment, we have the Pork Tornados performance from 6pm to 8:30pm on the Anne and Bill Riley stage.”
