Honolulu firefighters extinguish a three-alarm fire on Prospect Street

June 1 – Honolulu firefighters extinguished a three-alarm structure fire on Prospect Street near San Antonio Avenue this morning.

The dark smoke from the fire could be seen from miles away in Honolulu.

Police closed Prospect Street at Huali Street while firefighters battled the blaze in the Punchbowl neighborhood.

According to the Honolulu Fire Department, firefighters received a 911 call at 10:17 a.m. about a structure fire on Prospect Street. HFD responded with three units and 48, with the first unit arriving at 10:25 a.m. to find a two-story single-family home “consumed by heavy smoke and flames impacting a neighboring home.”

A third alarm, requiring more units and personnel, was issued at approximately 10:31 a.m

The fire brigade had the fire under control at 10.44 am and extinguished it at 11.31 am

The affected homes were smoke-ventilated and appeared to be vacant, HFD said.

Fire investigators will determine the cause of the fire and provide damage estimates, officials said.
