Obituary of Laurene Nicholl – Loveland, CO

Laurene M. Nicholl passed away peacefully on Monday, December 11, 2017 at the Medical Center of the Rockies. She was born in Wheatland, WY, to Max Dufford, Sr. and Lola (Sanderson) Dufford. The family moved to Colorado in 1934. Her father worked as a station agent for the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad, bidding for a new job every year. Laurene never spent more than a year at any school until she was a sophomore at Hayden Union High School in Hayden, Colorado. She graduated from that school in 1950, earned a bachelor’s degree from CSCE in Greeley in 1954, and then a master’s degree and a doctorate from UNC. Laurene taught school for 38 years in California (4 years), Greeley and Fort Collins. She was an avid Bronco and Rockies fan. She was preceded in death by husband, Dr. Willard Nicholl, her parents, and a brother, Max Dufford, Jr., stepson Mark Barraclough and stepson Pete McDonnell. She married Joseph Barraclough in 1985, who survives a happy marriage after 31 years, 11 months and 14 days. She is also survived by stepchildren Paula Wacker (Bill), Matt (Jo) and Michelle; grandchildren Amanda, Brian, Christian and Connor, great-grandchildren Opal and Jordan, and goddaughter Kris O’Donnell (Darren). Laurene was a loyal Episcopalian and daughter of the king. Laurene’s funeral will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 1:00 PM at All Saint’s Episcopal Church in Loveland, 3448 N. Taft Ave, with a reception to follow.
