Fact check: Was Chennedy Carter fined $25 by WNBA for Caitlin Clark’s foul?

The match between Indiana and Chicago certainly proved to be a fiery contest. However, it wasn’t just because the game was on the line, but also because of the physical altercation between Chennedy Carter and Caitlin Clark. Shortly after the final buzzer, huge demands were made on social media to punish Carter for her actions. But the WNBA has not officially indicated any signs of its involvement in this regard. Still, the viral nature of the incident has paved the way for rumors and fake news to gain widespread attention.

A fake account using the name of senior lead NBA Insider for the Athletic, Shams Charania, was among the first to spread the news that the league has intervened. An X post on the account stated that the WNBA plans to fine Carter for her. -Judicial antics with Clark. The message says, “The WNBA says it is fining Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter $25 dollars for an altercation with Caitlin Clark earlier this evening, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.”

Regardless, nothing definitive has surfaced and this development is incorrect. In addition, there has been no official word from the league so far, and many of the trusted sources have not published any such disciplinary actions as of yet.

Similarly, there was another X user who chose to post such bold claims on his account. His post also included comparisons of the alleged fine amount to that of the NBA. Furthermore, the X user has also chosen to make Carter’s annual salary public. The message says, “WNBA just decided to fine Chennedy Carter a whopping $25 dollars for this cheap attempt to insult Caitlin Clark. I’m not sure if this will send a message, but… This is the equivalent of a $4,000 fine to an NBA player. She makes 64,000 a year and average NBA players make 10,000,000 a year.”

Meanwhile, the 6-foot-1 guard is trying not to let the on-court drama affect him in any way.

The skirmish didn’t stop Clark from securing an impressive 11 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists, which ultimately proved crucial for the hosts. Additionally, she was 4 of 11 from the field and connected on 2 of her 9 beyond-the-arc attempts.
