Massive man killed on Maine Turnpike in Kittery after crashing with a car

A Massachusetts man who crashed his car near the entrance to a weigh station on the Maine Turnpike was killed by a tractor-trailer Saturday morning after walking into the middle of the highway, authorities said.

Chhoeunly Phoeung, 36, was struck by a tractor-trailer in Kittery, Maine State Police said in a statement.

Authorities did not say where Phoeung lived in Massachusetts. A spokesperson could not be reached for comment early Saturday evening.

Phoeung was driving a Mazda CV5 southbound when he left the roadway and struck several objects near the entrance to the state police weigh station around 3:10 a.m., the statement said.

He then walked into traffic on the turnpike and was struck, the statement said.

Phoeung was taken by ambulance to Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire, where he was pronounced dead, state police said.

The crash is under investigation.
