What is the NCLEX-RN Exam?
The National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) is the entry to practice exam in USA and, as of January 2015, Canada. The exam is computer adapted and “responds” to each student’s unique competency level.
This is NOT a Canadian version of the NCLEX-RN exam.
This is a common question and misunderstanding we encounter at PRIMED.
While Canadian nurses have been used to inform some question development and the exam is reviewed for relevancy and content on a regular basis, the NCLEX-RN is computer adapted, therefore we cannot predict if a student will encounter questions related to American nursing culture, policy or practice (i.e. American healthcare acts).
While the NCSBN has assured Canadian educators that questions which are consistently challenging for Canadian students will be removed from the question bank, it remains unclear how this will effect early NCLEX writers.
